Millennials, Google has an advise for you

    

As the most widely-used search engine in the world, Google needs to stay on its toes when it comes to eliminating malware and phishing websites from its massive search index. Though the company does a lot behind-the-scenes to take care of malware concerns, it also keeps users aware about how they can tackle these issues from their end.

In order to inform web users (especially youngsters) about these attacks, the company, like every year, celebrated 'Safe Internet Day' on February 6. We had a word with Sunita Mohanty, Google India's director of trust and safety, who shared her thoughts about millennials and the way they use the internet.

According to Mohanty, young web users should be conscious about giving out their personal information online and leaving their footprints across different websites, especially social networking ones


She said that young users should be 'socially conscious' about the websites they open and feed personal information on. They should also be made aware of exactly what information they are supposed to provide or not provide online.

"For millennials, the most important thing is to be responsible on the internet, which is by not leaving any digital footprints that may come back to haunt them later."

Mohanty further added that a lot of times, youngsters become revolutionary on the web and leave a lot of information, all of which comes back after years when they are applying for a job.

She said that by "being conscious about what you leave on the internet will go a long way in keeping your relationship with the internet safe."

Not only did she talk about youngsters leaving bits and pieces of their personal information online, but also explained how Google is working hard when it comes to online payments made for Google Play Store purchases

Google, on its end, uses a 'risk engine' to catch any suspicious transactions in seconds. The company is also educating people on how they can ensure that their in-app transactions are safe.

For now, one of the Google's primary focuses seems to be bringing the 'next billion' users on the web. The company is not only helping in giving more users access to the internet, but also explaining them how to browse safely.

This is a part of what we heard about Google's attempt to make the web safer. Recently, the company also explained how it takes care of millions of apps available on Play Store. While all these initiatives by Google are appreciable, we can only expect the company to improve its security features even more in the coming years.
